Frequently asked questions
Is TakeSheet a DAW?
No — and that's the point. TakeSheet doesn't record audio, host plugins, or mix anything. It's a take logger: it captures what happened in the session (which takes, which were keepers, what everyone said about them) while your DAW does the audio work. Think of it as the world's fastest replacement for the paper take sheet.
Does it record audio?
No. TakeSheet logs metadata about takes — timestamps, durations, ratings, flags, notes. You can import rough bounces for playback (a Pro feature) and record short voice memos as attachments, but the app is not a recorder and never touches your DAW's audio.
Is Pro really a one-time purchase?
Yes. Pro is a single one-time purchase — no subscription, no renewal, no recurring charge. With Universal Purchase it unlocks on iPhone, iPad, and Mac using the same Apple Account.
What happens to my data if I don't buy Pro (or stop using it)?
Nothing is deleted, ever. Free limits only gate creating new things: with more than 3 projects, the extra ones become read-only rather than disappearing, and existing attachments and data all remain accessible on your device.
Does it work offline?
Fully. Studios are famously bad places for Wi-Fi, so logging, takes, and attachments all work with no connection. If you're on Pro, iCloud sync catches up automatically the next time you're online.
Does the free version sync across my devices?
Not automatically — Free keeps your projects on whichever device you created them on. Pro adds iCloud sync, so the same projects and takes appear on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Is the instrument encyclopedia free?
The reference library — mic placement diagrams, mic chains, and reference-track suggestions — is a Pro feature, along with the ability to add your own custom instruments.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your sessions, takes, and attachments stay on your device, and with Pro they sync through your own personal iCloud account — either way, we cannot read them. Sign-in is optional and identity-only. There's no ad tracking and nothing is sold. The full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone and iPad on iOS/iPadOS 17 or later, and Mac on macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Each version is genuinely native SwiftUI — the Mac app is not Catalyst and not a web wrapper.
